Reacting to the news item published in the September 4 issue of this paper under the caption, �Where is the Rs 2.15 cr ganja seized by 22 AR ?�, the Assam Rifles authorities while strongly refuting the news item said that the ganja was burnt in the presence of police and the villagers.
Huge banner, �Burning of ganja quantity of 8600 kg caught at Makhan on Aug 12, 2005,� was displayed at the site of the burning, claimed AR in a statement.
The burning of the ganja publicly was to emphasise the fact that the Assam Rifles are a friendly force and determined to fight the menace of drug trafficking along with the people of Manipur, said the statement and added that the �entire event was recorded and also shown to the news reporter of The Sangai Express�.
