Joining the mass condemnation, Governor Dr SS Sidhu has expressed deep anguish over the bomb blast which took place on November 8 at the main market place of the capital city resulting in the death of two and injuries to 19 innocent persons.
In a statement, the Governor described the blast as �cowardly and inhuman act by criminal elements who seem to be trading in human misery�.
The Constitutional head of the State expressed grave concern over the fact that the incident took place in broad day light in the crowded market area, and observed that law enforcing agencies need to gear themselves up and exercise utmost vigilance so as to avoid recurrence of such incidents.
To protest the blast 24-hour Khwairamband Bazar bandh called by Khwairamband Bazar Nupi Keithel Shemgat-Sagatpa Marup, Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham and Saktam Kanba Lup was imposed today.
No bandh related incident was reported.
The normal business transaction in the market came to a grinding halt with all the shops remaining closed for the day.
All the shops at Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar downed their shutters and the temporary market sheds remained deserted.
Following the bandh, number of passenger buses and other vehicles coming to Imphal from other districts of the State was also minimal.
However, Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup members who resorted to cease work strike yesterday to protest the blast returned to work today.
Condemning the incident, All Manipur Elementary School Teachers� Assn, Zone-I said killing innocent people is an act of terrorism and deserved strongest condemnation from all.
While appealing to all concerned to ensure such incident do not recur, the teachers� body urged the Government for extending all possible help including financial assistance to the victims.
