The newly floated Nawa Leikol is all set to prevail upon the State Government for framing a policy to assist children affected by the scourge of HIV/AIDS.
Nawa Leikol is a conglomerate of various women and student bodies as well as represented by members of NGOs and media establishments to initiate welfare measures for children whose existence are under threat from the HIV/AIDS menace.
Interacting with reporters today Leikol's co-convenor S Indira said around 5000 children of the State are endangered by the deadly disease for which the Govt need to frame and add Children's Policy in the State AIDS Policy so that children whose parents had become victims of HIV/AIDS are taken care of.
Most of the under-aged children are suspected to have been affected due to mother to child transmission, she said while speculating that there might be many number of children who are HIV/AIDS infected through other means.
Indira also expressed concern of unsound economic conditions of family resulting in inadequate medication of infected children and deprivation from pursuing education leading to traumatic conditions of such children.
Nawa Leikol is informed to have been formed as a consequence of the August 30 workshop held at Hotel Nirmala under the aegis of SASO's CRS Project.
