Imphal, November 10:
A seminar on "Social and Political Conflicts in Manipur and its Resolutions" was organised today by Social Science Research Association, Manipur (SSRAM) at Manipur University.
Vice Chancellor Prof N Bijoy, Prof Ratna Tikoo and Dean of Social Sciences Prof N Joykumar graced the seminar as president chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
President of SSRAM, Prof Ksh Bimola in her key note address opined that conflicts have become a phenomenon in the 21st century.
By about 1990 social, economic and political conflicts erupted in Manipur.
Of the myriad of conflicts besetting the State, the conflict between the movement for self determination propounded by the revolutionaries and the Union Government has been predominant, added the professor.
Recounting the major conflicts seen in the State, she mentioned the ethnic conflict of 1990 between Nagas and Kukis, the conflict between Meeteis and Meetei Pangals in 1993, the Kuki-Paite conflict of 1997-98, the silent conflict arising out of NSCN(IM)-Union Govt ceasefire & prolonged economic blockade imposed by ANSAM between Nagas and non Nagas, the conflict between the Indian State and people on various human rights violation issues et al.
Manipur could be rightly called a land of conflicts, observed the professor adding that compromise on certain points would be needed on the part of the parties/individuals involved to resolve the conflicts.
