Imphal, March 31 2010:
A joint team of civil bodies based in Chandel district along with reporters of Imphal based newspapers visited the houses and properties damaged by heavy hailstorm lashed in the district yesterday evening.
The joint team comprised of representatives Lamkang Naga Hoho, Lamkang Kurchuknao Kunpun, Lamkang Students' Union, Lamkang Naga SNU Lop and reporters from Imphal visited the affected villages and also extended assistance to the victim families.
The joint team visited affected sites at Leingangching, New Chayang, Mantri Pancha and Angkhel Chayang etc.
In Leingangching village out of around 75 homesteads, around roofing materials of around 20 were blown out by the hailstorm.
Many families were rendered homeless after the heavy storm with hail swept yesterday evening, chief of the village revealed.
Around eight houses of Angkhel were also found damage by the hailstorm.
A primary school was also found blown out by the storm.
The village chief appealed government to extend assistances to the victim families.
From the LKK, LNSL sides, seven bundles of CGI Sheet were donated to a school, Oriental Academy at Riverland village destroyed by the hailstorm.
The roofing material was handed over to the founder of the academy, KL Arun.
By the hailstorm, the building of the school having eight class room with around 40 students was blown out apart from sweping away houses and other structures at Riverland village.
