A five day multi-disciplines workshop under the theme Interaction Professional Artists and Students of Imphal Arts College organised jointly by the Imphal Arts College and Art Society, Manipur under the sponsorship of the University Grant Commission (UGC) kicked off here at the conference of the only college of its kind in the state at Deulahland.
Revealing that only one student of national awardee could produced so far since the inspection of the first ever art college in the entire north eastern region, chairperson of the Art Society Manipur, Langoljam Shamu who graced the inaugural function as chief guest expressed his willingness to relook into the reason behind the poor performance of the college.
In spite pretty long existence of the college in the state, only one national awardee in the field of art could produce.
Whether it was due to lack of skill talented student or lack of taking keen interest by the teachers and students need to be found out, Shamu observed.
He said that in the state there have plenty of professional arts and artists.
But only few of them were acclaim artist at the national and international level.
It is not good expressing his willingness to push the art college to higher level from the existing status with the efforts of the students.
However, secretary of the society, Kullachandra M-Them speaking as guest of honour of the inaugural function said that the college is stepping towards a new direction.
The installation painting machines has given a ray of hope to the students.
One day the college will be among the national premier colleges, he hoped.
He also mooted for formation of an association of alumni for the college and increases the activities of the college by holding art exhibitions frequently.
Prof RK Somorjit of Geography department of Manipur University also talked as guest of honour at the function which was presided over by Chairman Loitongbam Mangi.
On the occasion, gifts were presented to the students of graphic, painting and sculpture and encouraged them.
The workshop will continue till April 4 .
