The self styled chief of the proscribed KYKL-MDF who was arrested by a combined team from Shillong on the night of March 26 was brought back to Imphal today.
The self-styled chief identified as Maisnam Gopeshwor alias Athouba (40) of Phubala Makha Leikai was arrested by a joint team of Thoubal District Police Commandos, Meghalaya Police and personnel of 16 Maratha Light Infantry under Red Shield Division from Shillong on the night of March 26 last.
Soon after his arrival at Tulihal Airport, Imphal, a team of Thoubal District Police whisked away Gopeshwor to Imphal in connection with some cases in which he was involved.
According to a statement issued by Senior SP of Thou-bal Clay Khongsai, preliminary interrogation has revealed that Gopeshwor was involved in several crimes.
These include ambush on Bishnupur Commandos at Loukoipat in 2004, ambush on BSF RPO near Lokchao along NH-39 in 2002 in which one BSF jawan was killed, ambush on BSF ROP at Lokchao in 2003 in which 4/5 personnel were killed and 3 INSAS Rifles snatched, killing of both father and son from Lokchao Project at Ningthoukhong Bazar in 1995, killing of both father and son from Ningthoukhong near Ningthoukhong Boys' High School in 1997, killing of one KYKL cadre from Kha-Jiri at Phubala in 1996, killing of one youth from Huikap village at Yairipok, killing of Monoj Sethi at a place in between Langmeidong and Thongjao, encounter with security force at Maphou Dam in which four cadres of KYKL were killed by the security forces in 2004, snatching of arms from the escorts of DC Bishnupur as well as from Sugnu PS personnel at Wangoo Lamkhai.
Subsequent to his arrest, Thoubal Police Commandos also arrested the younger brother of Gopeshwar identified as Khagemba (30) along with two AK-47 Rifles from their house.
In the follow up action, a woman sympathiser identified as Joyrose Machangnao (42) w/o Likeson Machangnao had also been reportedly arrested from Tungkoi.
