Manipur government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an US based Intel Company for supply of 200 laptops for children's education through computer technology.
In the agreement signed today at the office room of the director of Education (s) between the Intel Company represented by Director of the Corporate Arrears-South Asian, Rahul Reddy and with the Director of Education (S) in present of state education minister, L Jayentakumar and other officials of both side.
Corporate Arrear-South Asian is the implementing agency programmes, Corporate Social Responsibility programme of the Intel Company in South Asia.
Speaking to reporters after the signing of the MoU, state Education Minister, L Jayentakumar said that the 200 specially designed laptops for students will be supply to two government schools and two private schools selected by his department.
The four schools are yet to be listed out for the time being.
The final list of the schools will be decided at the earliest, he added.
He further said that government is all set to implement the first phase of the "One Laptop Per Child (OLPC)", a global project aimed at imparting education to students through computer technology.
Another 1000 laptops under the OLPC for implementing the scheme from this year academic session is also getting ready.
The scheme is to be taken up on experimental basis in stepping in the new era in the field of education.
While asserting that the scheme could not be successfully implement without the support of the people, the education minister sought corporation from the people.
Imparting special training to the teachers and students also included in the implementation of the scheme.
For bringing quality education in the state, changes in the present system of education is a must, he observed adding that after launching the OLPC scheme how much changes can be able to bring about in the education system could be known.
Director of Corporate Affairs-South Asia, Rahul Reddy said expressed confident that the introduction of new teaching method will give immense benefits to the students of the state and in bringing quality education in the state as well.
The OLPC laptops have been tailored in such a way that course content and certain text books can be made available in local languages, so they should prove invaluable to the school children of the country and laptops of the students will be control by a mother computer to be control by a teacher.
