Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi today assured for a separate economic package for Manipuris living in all the 13 Districts of Assam in reply to a joint memorandum submitted by the various civil bodies of Manipuris based in Assam state.
The joint memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi by all the leading organizations of the state at Guwahati today.
The memorandum was signed by Prof.L.Gourababu Singha, Member Linguistic Minority Dev.
Board of Assam,Dr.M.Santi Kumar Singha Gen.
Secretary, Manipuri Diaspora Assam,Smt.Jayanti Devi, President, All Assam Manipuri Women Meirapaibi Coordination Committee,M.Ningamba, Vice President, All Assam Manipuri Students Union,Ng.Brajakishore, Gen Secy- Barak Valley Meetei Convention, Kamini Singha , Gen Secy, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Assam,K.Swapon Singha, Member Thougal Marup, Hailakandi, Krishnamohan Singha , Member UMAA, Kunjababu Singha, Guwahati Maniuri Social Organization,Ksh.

The memorandum demanded a separate economic development council for the Manipuris living in all the 13 Districts of Assam.
The memorandum which is self explanatory urges the Chief Minister by saying that, Chief Minister is very much aware that there are about 8 lakh Manipuri speaking people living scatter in 13 districts of Assam.
Due to the demographic conditions this community has not been able to rise up politically & economically.
Moreover, this Linguistic Minority Community is facing a tremendous Socio-Economic crisis.
To solve the present problem & overall development of this deprived community your honour is kindly requested to constitute a separate Economic Development Council for the Manipuris living in Assam.
While submitting the memorandum, L Gourababu Singha, Member linguistic Minority Development Board requested the Chief Minister for immediate declaration of the formation of the council.
Members of Manipuri Women Meirapaibi Coordination Committee presented the Chief Minister with traditional Manipuri "Moirangkabi Khudei".
In response Tarun Gogoi has given assurance for constituting a separate Economic Development Council for the Manipuries living in Assam.
The delegation was headed by Dinesh Prasad Goala, Minister Urban Development & Housing, Gautom Roy, Minister Excise, Ajit Singha, Parliamentary Secretary, Finance, Assam, MLA Sonai, Kutub Ahmed Mazumder, Rahul Roy, MLA, Algapur, Bithika Dev, MLA, Silchar.
The Ministers & the MLA of the ruling congress party of the state have pleaded the Chief Minister in favour of the Manipuri Delegation team headed by the Apex Manipuri Organization, Manipuri Diaspora and urge the Chief Minister to constitute immediately the economic Development Council for the Manipuri speaking people of Assam, they all are having major share of vote in their constituency.
In this regard, MLA Sonai Kutub Ahmed Majumder, who is the lone Manipuri speaking member of Assam legislative assembly, also submitted a memorandum.
Dr.M.santi Kumar Singha, Gen secretary Manipuri Diaspora expressed gratitude to all the Ministers & MLAs of Barak Valley for their support & initiative taken to fulfill the long standing demand of this deprived community.
Later, the delegates had a separate meeting with DP Goala, Gautom Roy, Ajit Singh & Kutub Ahmed Majumder.
