The 8th foundation day of Thoubal District Development and Demand Council was held today at the YASTA ground with MLA Dr M Nara, former chairman of Thoubal Municipal Council L Kesho Meitei and president of TDDAC as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Giving the key note address, general secretary of the body, L Lopendra said that the Council was set up on January 11, 1998 by different clubs and voluntary organisations of the district to uphold the rights of the people.
The main demand of the Council has been to extend the right to contest the Lok Sabha election for the people of seven ACs of the district which falls under the Outer Constituency.
The other demands which have been raised by the Council include the establishment of a District hospital, Govt girls' college at Thoubal, Post graduate college, district sports complex with requisite infrastructure, upgradation of CD blocks, an office complex for the district administration, updated market shed, maintenance of IVRS and compensation for the farmers affected by the Loktak Hydro Project.
In his address, Dr M Nara said all the demands raised by the Council are reasonable and asked them to wait for some more time for all their demands to be fulfilled.
