Even as the 24 Assam Rifles has claimed that three UNLF cadres were killed in a shoot out at Tangkhul Khullen under Yairipok police station yesterday, the local people today met the Chief Minister and contended that two of the killed persons were innocent people.
The two deceased civilians identified as Sanasam Ngongo (15) and Saikhom Shamungou (20) had gone to look for their missing cattle on January 10 morning, recounted some JAC members to media-persons today.
While the two were searching for the missing cattle (buffaloes) at different directions at the nearby hillock, gunshots were heard following which both raced for home when they were apprehended by the AR personnel and shot dead after branding them as members of an underground outfit, charged the delegate members and added that this has been conveyed to the CM.
They further said that the Chief Minister has been urged to take up necessary action to prevent AR personnel from targeting innocent civilians under the guise of launching offensive against underground activists in Yairipok areas.
In addition to the mothers of the two deceased youths - Ibeyai and Shenu secretary of Nungbrang meira paibi H Kumari Devi, president N Khomei Devi, Nungbrang Tukhong Lairembi Youth Club secretary N Tolen, member N Nimaichand and a teacher of Public School Changamdabi Kh Dhananjoy were part of the delegate that called on the Chief Minister.
The CM was assisted by Works Minister Th Debendra, Health Minister L Nandakumar, Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat and the ADGP.
However, even as the agreement reached between the Nungbrang delegation and the Government, All Manipur Students� Union, Yairipok branch has imposed a dawn to dusk general strike at Yairipok areas from 6 m tomorrow.
The purview of the general strike will particularly cover Yairipok bazar, Nongpok Sekmai, Thoubal Dam, Chandrakhong and Wangkhem areas, according to president of the student body branch Iqbal Saha Khullakpam.
Candidates appearing at the ongoing TDC III year examination would be exempted from the purview of the strike, said Iqbal who informed that Sanasam Ngongo was a class VI student of Public School, Yairipok Changamdabi.
