Public of Moirang have strongly co-ndemned the inefficacy of the Govt Dept concerned in not being able to complete the Accelerated Urban Water Supply Scheme meant for distribution of drinking water in Moirang and its surrounding areas, the work for which was started way back in 1999.A joint public meeting was held at Moirang Bazar on January 9 to discuss the detail of the crisis related to the Water Supply Scheme.
MLA of Moirang A/C S Gopal and president of Keithel Phambi Ema Lup M Shijachoubi Devi attended the function as chief guest and president respectively.
Councillors of Moirang Municipal Council (MMC) H Ranbir Singh, Ph Ma-dhabi Devi.
Kh Nimai Singh, L Bidhu Singh, Kh Gopal and Ph Shammu were also present at the meeting as guests of honour.
After a detailed discussion on the matter, the meeting resolved to pursue the authorities concerned to complete laying the pipelines in the areas already surveyed, construct a new technically feasible intake point (overhead) since the present one has failed, speeding up the construction of the reservoir tanks which have been left incomplete midway, construction of the chowkidar quarter and appointment of a chow-kidar in accordance to the agreement signed between the chief of Molphei Tam-pak and the Department of PHED before commencement of the scheme.
The meeting further resolved to put pressure on the authority concerned to reach an agreement with the village chief of Molphei Tampak who had ceased supplying water to the reservoir since January 2, 2005 on alleged ground of assurance of job to his family.
The meeting strongly felt that the authorities concerned should shift the intake point of the present water supply system from Loktak to the already completed intake point structure at Takmu.
