The Government today assured the JAC formed in the backdrop of the killing of one Tontang Konshang of Khoibu village, that adequate compensation will be paid to the family of the deceased on the ground that the victim was a student.
Following the assurance, the JAC with the consent of the victim�s family decided to claim the body tomorrow.
Mention may be made that Tontang was pulled down from an Imphal-Sanakeithel passenger bus on January 7 by suspected cadres of the Kuki National Army and subsequently shot dead.
Besides the CM the Govt was represented by Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh, ADGP, IGP (LO-I) and Ukhrul DC Jugindro while the grieving party included representatives of the Litan-Yaingangpokpi Mapithel Area JAC, headman of Tangkhul Nagalong Village and the principal of the school where Tontang was studying before he was killed.
A number of civil societies and the Khoibou tribe had strongly condemned the killing of Tontang.
