Internationally acclaimed and noted film maker of Manipur Aribam Syam Sharma have been nominated as chairman of jury for the selection of non-feature film for the Indian Panorama at International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2005.The 36th edition of the of the IFFI 2005 will be held from November 24 to December 4 in Goa.
It is the second time for Aribam Syam Sharma to head the jury for the IFFI and is the only person from the region till date.
The members in the jury for the non-feature film section are Arun Chadha, Sanjivan Lal, MA Rehman and MK Raja Narayan.
There are 150 entries in the this section to select from.
Recipient of ten National Awards, five for his feature films and another five for non-feature films, Aribam Syam Sharma left Imphal yesterday for New Delhi.
Cine Artistes and technicians Association, Manipur Express its happiness on being nomination of Sharma as chairman of the jury.
It can be mentioned here that Manipuri feature film "Imagee Ningthem" directed by him won the Grand Prix award in 1982 and his films both in non-feature and feature films were invited to many international Film Festivals.
His non-Feature film entitled "The Monpas of Arunachal Pradesh was nominated in the international film festival of India 2002.The film bagged award for the best anthropological/ethnographic film in 49th national film festival.
His non-feature film entitled "Ishanou" was also screened in Cannes film festival in 1991.Born in 1936 at Imphal, Syam Sharma involved himself in Manipuri theatre as actor, director and vocalist.
Since 1974 he has made five feature films: Lamja Parsuram, Saaphabee (1977), Olangthagee Wangamadasso (1980), Imagi Ningthem (1981) and Ishanou (1990) and several short films.
