Tuensang, September 29 (NNN):
The residents of Yakur village have expressed deep concern over the free movement of armed underground cadres at Yakur village and the frequent factional clashes involving both factions of the NSCN.
A delayed report reaching here said an NSCN (IM) cadre was seriously injured in an encounter with rival NSCN (K) near Yakur village on September 26. However, according to unofficial sources two cadres were injured in the incident.
The report said the incident occurred when a group of 40-45 NSCN (IM) cadres led by �Lt� Akhui Thangkhul was ambushed by a combined group of NSCN (K) and FGN cadres.
The injured cadre was later identified as �ss Pvt� Thangpo of NSCN (IM)�s JC Battalion.
Both sides reportedly exchanged a barrage of gunshots during the gun battle which lasted for about 20-25 minutes.
However, there was no official confirmation of the clash.
Meanwhile, villagers of the area accused the law-enforcing agencies of aiding a particular faction in the fight against its rival group.
However, officials of the law-enforcing agencies dismissed the allegation stating that they provided assistance on humanitarian ground.
According to sources, senior officials of the law-enforcement agencies assured that henceforth no Government vehicles would be provided to any faction or group of underground as demanded by the people.
