In relation with its 175th anniversary the 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) organised a volleyball championship at Keithelmanbi from March 15 to March 18 last.
Villages of the surrounding area participated in the championship which organised with an endeavour to provide a platform for the local youths.
Colonel, SC Rana, KC, Commandant, 28 Assam Rifles inaugurated the championship.
The final match was played between SAngai Club, Khumbong and NYDC, Khaidem.
NYDC beat Sangai Club 3-1 and won the championship.
Brigadier, Gajendra Prasad, VSM, Commander, 9 Sector Assam Rifles graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and distributed prizes to the winner and runners up teams.
People who attended the closing ceremony expressed their gratitude to the Assam Rifles for their noble gesture and also stressed the need for such military civic action interaction in future.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles also organised a football match at Liberal College, Luwangsangbam between a team of MANAMASF Football Club and IGAR (South) today to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the Assam Rifles.
Major General, CA Krishnan, IGAR (South), Brigadier Gajendra Prasad, Commander, 9 Sector AR, local people and troops of Assam Rifles witnessed the match.
After engaging in a keenly contested fight, the match concluded in a goalless draw.
The chief guest also presented the players of both tams with sports kits.
The match was conducted with the aim of achieving peace of harmony in the state.
