A two-day Mega Health Mela was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati district, Nidhi Kesarwani at the district hospital today.
The mela is organised by the Senapati District Rural Health Mission.
During the Mela, which will go on till tomorrow, minor surgeries, diagnosis, X-rays, urinal test, ultra sound, HIV test, blood examination, etc.
will be conducted free of cost.
The Mela is an annual feature under the flagship programme of National Rural Health Mission (NHRM) and targeting benefitting people from far flung areas of the district.
Stalls from different health related sectors like the PHED, ICDS, ZEO, Leprosy Control Society, Malaria Control Society, Tuberculosis Control Society, District Welfare Soceity, AIDS Control, Vector Borne Diseases and others are featuring in the mela.
Some of the departments are distributing material, medicines and treatment free of cost to the patients.
Speaking on the occasion, Nidhi Kesarwani who is also the chairman of the Distrcit NHRM expressed hope that the mela will give an opportunity for every citizens to access the right to free medical care and diagnosis as the mela will avail specialist doctors and free medicines to the needy ones.
She also called for more awareness in the village level with the implementation of Village Health and Sanitation Committee (VHSC) and the ASHAs deployed under the NRHM.
Dr Loli Mao, CMO, Senapati district, RK Elizabeth, district programme manager (NRHM) and president of SDSA also spoke on the occasion.
Apart from providing bulk of medicines to the needy patients who turn up to the mela, around 2200 people turned up on the first day of the health mela but medical check up were conducted to around 1800 people.
The programme will continue till tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the organizers have appealed to the people of the district to avail the benefits of the mela which comes once in a year.
