Imphal, August 20 2009:
The Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited (MPHCL) has clarified that some portion of the compound wall of the Kangla Fort on the northern side adjacent to Kekrupat had collapsed due to staking of dug out soil for construction of water reservoir by the PHED near northern gate of the Kangla Fort.
A statement issued by the Managing Director of MPHC Ltd said it had already informed the Department of Archaeology to prevent the staking of extra soil on the side of the wall as early as on July 29 .
The statement also cautioned the people not to be misled by news items published in local papers or broadcast on TV news channel.
