Imphal, August 20 2009:
Coming out strongly against the undue delay in implementing the Community Care Centre for HIV/AIDS infected persons, the Reactive Mother and Child Health Development Association, Ukhrul has today questioned whether the Manipur AIDS Control Society is intent on leaving all the HIV/AIDS infected persons to their own fate.
In a statement, the Association reminded that the CCC should have been set up two years back in Ukhrul district, but for one reason or the other, MACS has been wilfully stalling it.
Instead of going ahead with the scheme, MACS first constituted a Joint Appraisal Team to take a final decision.
However till date, nothing has been done to implement the said scheme, leaving the HIV positive people of Ukhrul to their own fate, it alleged.
Accusing the Project Director of MACS for remaining indifferent to the plight of the HIV positive people of Ukhrul, the Association said that the patients have to face a lot inconveniences to go to Imphal for any treatment.
Some patients have to travel as long as 200 kms just to go to Imphal, it said and questioned why the Project Director has remained indifferent to the plight of the patients.
Now there is no longer any trust that MACS would actually allow the opening of the CCC in Ukhrul, said the statement and added that it is better that the National AIDS Control Organisation been trusted to implement the said scheme.
