Kohima, February 19, 2010:
Close on the heels of arrest and suspension of two Nagaland police personnel for carrying banned IMFL, a BSF jawan has been arrested on charges of bootlegging, police said today.
Following a tip off, the driver of a BSF truck was arrested last evening while he was allegedly carrying 456 cases of assorted Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from nearby Khatkhati in Assam's Karbi Anglong district.
The driver brought the truck from a BSF camp in Manipur on official duty but at Dimapur he allegedly agreed to carry the consignment for a bootlegger at the commission of Rs 40-45 per case, police said.
In the past, many seizures of contraband substances, particularly ganja, were made from the vehicles of paramilitary forces on NH-39, meandering through Nagaland and Manipur.
