A combined team of 23 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under Hqs IGAR (S) and personnel of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) carried out a destruction drive of standing ganja cultivation at Shabunkhok Khunou on February 18.According to a press release issued by PRO Hqs (IGAR (S), ganja cultivation of around 5 acres and 500 kg of raw ganja were destroyed during the drive.
Assam Rifles has conducted similar drives in various other localities of the State, the press release added.
In another incident, a combined team of personnel of Imphal Regional Unit of Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) and troops of 22 Assam Rifles seized 360 kg of ganja from the possession of one Solomon s/o Ashihru of Wafamai village while checking a Maruti Gypsy (NL 1C 2307) at Tadubi on February 17.A press release issued by NCB Intelligence Officer BK Limbu said that the high quality ganja of total value of Rs 16 lakhs 60 thousand was recovered in neatly packed 19 gunny bags and 29 polythene packets.
The accused and the seized vehicle along with the contraband item have been sent to NCB Regional 1 Unit office at Imphal.
He has been remanded to judicial custody and presently lodged at Sajiwa Jail.
