Imphal, June 19:
In protest against the Government order of shifting the office of the District Transport Officer (DTO) from its present location at Palace Compound to the MSRTC complex at Mantripukhri, employees of the Transport Department staged a Wakat Meepham inside the complex of the DTO office demanding cancellation of the said Government order immediately.
Talking to mediapersons in this regard, general secretary of All Manipur Transport Department (MV) Employees' Union Ottong Khongsai informed that apart from DTO office of the Imphal East at Palace Compound, all the other District Transport Offices under the Transport Department of the Government are located on private plots.
The only land of the Department is the plot where the DTO office of the Imphal East stands today.
So the attempt being made by the Government to usurp the only land of the Department is objectionable, he said.
He further informed that in reaction to the order Government issued by the Transport Commissioner on May 15 this year for shifting the office of the DTO from Palace Compound to the MSRTC complex at Mantripukhri, the Union had submitted a memorandum to the Transport Minister on May 21.But the Transport Director T Sitlhou issued another order on June 18 insisting that the office complex should be shifted at once.
This is really regrettable.
The Wakat Meepham has been staged to demand cancellation of the Government order and in case the Government do not heed to this appeal, the employees would be compelled to go ahead with cease work strike and other intense form of agitations, the Union general secretary warned.
Employees of the other District Transport Offices also participated in the Wakat Meepham held from 10 am to 4 pm today.
