In compliance with the instruction of the Election Commission of India, taking photographs of electors for attaching to electoral rolls will begin from the first week of July.
An official of the State Election Department informed The Sangai Express that taking of photographs will be done by going to the house of each elector.
For the proposed exercise, 200 cameras have been procured.
Saying that the exercise of taking electors' photographs and attachment to electoral rolls should be completed by the end of the current year, the official informed that the new electoral rolls with photographs will be used in the parliamentary election which is likely to be held at the end of next year.
Any voter whose photograph cannot be taken will be delisted from electoral rolls and they would not be allowed to exercise their franchise, he disclosed.
Voters who get left out in the house to house exercise of taking photographs may take their photographs in the offices of CIC's, SDO's and SDC's.Chief Minister O Ibobi had declared in the State Assembly session recently that photographs of voters will be attached in electoral rolls.
