The United Naga Council (UNC), which is spearheading the naga integration movement has resolved to elect its new president some time in December this year.
The apex Naga body's election has been necessitated after Paul Leo's decision to step down from the post of presidentship which was subsequently endorsed by the UNC executive, said its publicity secretary S Milan in an exclusively chat with The Sangai Express today.
On June 14, the Council in its emergency assembly accepted Paul's resignation with the same session deciding to hand-over the temporary charge to its speaker Samson Remmei till the conduct of the said poll.
Basically, normal schedule to elect the Council's fresh president falls in May next year 'but we had to prepone the process owing to the inevitable circumstances, Milan maintained.
To a query, he said there is no explicit programme at the current juncture other than persisting with the non-cooperation movement of the UNC against the manipur Govt for the latter's alleged defiance to the Naga integration movement.
