Imphal, February 19 2011:
Endorsing the demands of the agitating teachers who are demanding implementation of Central 6th Pay in toto as well as that of the agitation being launched by the students for ensuring normal classes, BJP Manipur Pradesh has pressurised the State Government to bring about an amicable solution to end the present deadlock.
Speaking to newspersons in this connection at the Nityapat Chuthek office of the party here today, BJP Manipur Pradesh president Sh Shantikumar observed that deprivation of the rightful demand of the teachers is unfortunate and shameful.
Instead of considering the demands of the agitating teachers, the assertion of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who is also currently in charge of the portfolio of Education, that he would rather resign than fall in line with the demand of the agitating teachers is irresponsible and it is devoid of any real intention.
Back-tracking of the Govt from its earlier order issued by the Chief Secretary in the name of the Governor on January 16, 2010 to the effect of implementing the Central 6th Pay to the teachers had amply shown that the Government has been whimsical and has no concern for the public, Shantikumar contended.
The agitating teachers are also not to be blamed for low rate of enrolment of students in the Government schools.
It is purely due to inherent weakness in the policy of the Government, Shantikumar said.
He further observed that the agitation of the students for ensuring normal classes is justifiable.
So, the Government should listen to the voice of the students who are future pillars of the society.
So, to save the academic career of the students and restrain them from taking up violent agitations, the Government should implement Central 6th Pay and fulfil the demand of the teachers.
