AIDS awareness reaches Singhat

MLA T Hangkhanpao of Singhat A/C today expressed concerned over the less participation of villagers in the hill areas in the HIV/AIDS awareness programme conducted in their respective villages.
Addressing as chief guest at an awareness programme at Singhat sub-division HQ, conducted by the Manipur Legislators Forum on AIDS, Hangkhanpao observed of having widespread awareness on the dreaded disease in the valley areas and said there is little awareness in the hill areas.
He said that in the hill areas, the number of people coming out to attend AIDS awareness programme was observed very less.
So, he had decided to conduct the programmes along celebration of foundation day of local clubs and women bodies and conventions organized by them which usually people in their large number attended.
The Manipur Legislators Forum on AIDS has also taken a decision to conduct more awareness programmes on the disease in the remote areas of the state, the MLA added.
According to a report of the Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS), over 36,000 people out of around 25 lakh population of the state have been affected or infected by the disease.
Despite the efforts of the NGOs working in the field, there was no sign of improving the situation, he went on to observe.
Hangkhanpao further said that he has been insisting authority concerned of the Health Department to station doctors in the healthcare centres located under the Singhat sub-division.
Not only this, he will not leave any stone unturned to addressing plight of the people of
the sub-division.
He said that he was unhappy when government failed to keep it promise of making Churachandpur HQ to Singhat sub-division HQ a metal road.
But he was happy on knowing that PDS items reached the villagers.
He will try his best for providing safe drinking water to the villagers by completing the ongoing water supply schemes.
The function which was presided by Ngulkholun Haokip, president of Singhat Area Kuki Chief Association, was attended by Paominlian, president of Thangkhal Peoples' Organisation and Haokholian, chief of Singhat village.
The programme was conducted as part of the 8th raising day of women wing of Singhat Youth Club.
