Mayai Lambi blocked over youths arrest

Imphal, February 19 2011:
When whereabouts of two youths including a national volleyball player nabbed by security forces could not be known, angry people of Top Siphai Mayai Leikai staged a road blockade on Mayai Lambi today.
Chabungbam Manglemba (28) son of Ch Nungshijao and Mongjam Suresh (27) son of L Mangi, both from Top Siphai Mayai Leikai were picked up by the troops of 12 Maratha Li station at telephone office at Mayang Imphal Chabung Company last night.
Among them Manglemba is a national volleyball player and also a newspaper hawker and Suresh engages in cultivation work.
While picking up them, no arrest memo was issued, family alleged.
Besides, their whereabouts could not be known by the families.
Security personnel who came on a bullet proof Gypsy and 407 truck, also entered to the house of one Chabungbam Rame and kicked at the door.
Families could not know the motive behind the nabbing of them but say that there was an instance of security force coming to the house of Manglemba and threatening to the players camping in his house for practice.

When family member followed when they were taken away, security personnel threatened to hit with butts.
Outrage womenfolk of the area rose up and stormed the 12 Maratha Li post at telephone office and remained there.
Later, they backed from there and imposed a blockade between the Mayai Lambi road near Cosmo ground and Yumnam Huidrom Leikai.
They burnt tyres and debris on the road to disturb vehicular movement.
A public meeting was also held at Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar and discussed follow up action to press the security forces to produce the duo.
The meeting resolved to press the security forces to hand over the two persons to the nearby police station at the earliest.
If they were not produced by 10 am of tomorrow, intensified forms of agitations would be launched, they warned.
Meanwhile, families have also lodged complaints with the Wangoi PS.
