Imphal, February 19 2011:
The State Government has directed all Kuki UG groups who are signatories of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact to keep their cadres within designated camps as far as possible.
State Government officials made this instruction to KNO and UPF leaders during a meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) held this morning at 1st Bn Manipur Rifles banquet hall with Home Commissioner V Vumlumang in the chair.
The meeting was attended by ADGP LS Khoute, MHA Under Secretary CM Bhatla, one representative of DGMI, representatives of Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF and BSF.
The Govt officials further directed the KNO and UPF leaders to stop extortion on highways and also not to deduct any percentage from funds sanctioned for Government sponsored projects/schemes.
An official informed that the numbers of cadres of each UG group under SoO pact have been ascertained after a joint verification.
However, KNO and UPF leaders, while maintaining that some members have been left out from the verification process, have put up a proposal to include the left out members in the official lists.
Out of 11 designated camps sanctioned for the armed groups under SoO pact, nine camps have been fully constructed while another one is nearing completion.
The last camp would be taking some more time, conveyed the official.
Weapons of these armed groups have also been deposited at designated camps under double locking system.
The Government has already released necessary fund for construction of the designated camps, added the official.
