To protest the assault of an engineer of the Central Workshop of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) by some contractors who came along with hired uniform personnel, the Non-Teaching Employees Welfare Association of the premier medical institute has launched an indefinite cease work strike.
The incident reportedly took place on November 15 afternoon.
Out of five contractors who were led by one Kennedy of Thoubal, three of them allegedly bashed up Section Officer of Central Workshop of RIMS Y Dosobanta in his own office room.

In connection with the incident, Dosobanta informed that the five contractors had come together in a car and were accompanied by uniformed police personnel in a Gypsy.
While three of the contractors were beating him up with chairs and helmet, the staff of CWS and IRB personnel on security duty at RIMS arrived at the scene and the five contractors tried to flee and the hired uniformed personnel tried to take Dosobanta along with them.
When one of the senior staff officers demanded to know with whose permission they had come and why they were trying to take Dosobanta along with them, the uniformed police personnel left and the five contractors were handed over to the custody of Lamphel Police.
According to police, out of the five contractors, two of them have been released as they were innocent while the remaining three have been granted bail on November 16 .
In protest against the assault of the engineer, members of the Non-Teaching Employees' Welfare Association today staged a Wakat Meepham inside the RIMS's complex and decided to go on an indefinite cease work strike with effect from 2 pm today.
Association president N Rasantakumar said that in case the State Government and the RIMS authorities do not take up necessary step to arrest the involved police personnel, the OPD service of the hospital would also be stopped.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of the staff of CWS today has decided to close down the works of the contractors involved in incident of beating up the engineer and not to award any more contract works to them.
While appealing to all the contactors of RIMS not to sponsor sub-contractors in carrying out their assigned works, the joint meeting also decided to exert pressure on RIMS authorities for taking up necessary measures to ensure termination of the police personnel involved in the incident from their respective posts.
