The Non Teaching Employees Welfare Association (NTEWA) of the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) has threatened to close down the Out Patient Department (OPD) of the hospital indefinitely from Thursday, November 20, if the government of Manipur and the RIMS authorities fail to book the culprits who were involved in assaulting Yendrembam Dasobanta, Section Officer of Central Workshop RIMS, within the next three day.
Disclosing the stand of the NTEWA during a sit-in-protest held that the RIMS campus in this connection, N Rasanta Kumar, president of the association affirmed that the government and the RIMS authorities were given three days time to book the culprits.
Failing this, the OPD of the hospital would be closed down indefinitely from Thursday, November 20, added the president.
Narrating of the incident, the victim Dasobanta informed that about five persons including Manipur police personnel came to see him on Saturday, November 15.However, only three persons identified as 'sub-contractors' entered his room and began to beat him with chairs and helmets, added the Desobanta.
Taking a tough stand in this regard, the association has resolved to permanently bandh the contract work of the culprits inside the RIMS while demanding that necessary legal action be taken against the police who accompanied the contractors on the day..
The Association also demanded to suspend those police personnel.
Resolution has been submitted to the RIMS Director, the Medical Superintendent and other police concern, informed the president of the NTEWA.
