AT LEAST four labours cutting rocks on the Impha-Tipaimukh road have died when they were hit by the sliding rocks this afternoon, police said.
The incident occurred at a place on the Imphal-Tipaimukh section of the NH-150 under Henglep police station at around 2 p.m., the report added.
Reports said that the rocks slide down when a bomb used in breaking the hard rocks blasted.
Three of them died at the spot while the remaining who sustained severe wounds died on the way to Churachandpur district hospital, the report said.
Meanwhile, Chief Engineer SEWAK Border Road Task Force (BRTF) has deeply condoled the death of four civilian workers namely Taulkholin of Pangal village, Lunkholun and Laisong of Santing-II village and Ginchingthang of Santing-I village who lost their lives in an accidents that occurred near Santing, Churachandpur district while carrying out expansion works on NH 150 today.
In a press note, the PIB (Defence Wing) prayed to the almighty to give strength to the families to bear this irreparable loss.
BRTF has assured that families of those killed or seriously injured will be given all help and compensated as per the existing norms.
BRTF felt proud for those who sacrifice their lives while working for the betterment of future generations of the region.
