Imphal, November 17 2008:
A MEMORANDUM submitted to the state chief minister by the JAC on Delimitation Process in Chandel district today has urged to conduct a public hearing on the objections on the division of constituencies of the autonomous district councils in Chandel district before the state government accepted the recommendation of the District Council's Delimitation Committee, DCDC.
It also urged the state government to advice the DCDC not to issue order regarding the formation of the district council's constituencies without prior permission from the state government concerns.
It is pertinent to mention that with an objective to reconstitute the constituencies for the purpose of elections of members of the Autonomous District Council and for exercise of the delimitation of the constituencies, DCDC was constituted by an order of the state government on May 24, 2008 .
The memorandum while observing that the delimitation exercise should be done taking into account the changes that took place in the inhabitation of villages in the around 30 to 35 years but not separating a village stated that Machet village (Hemlet) should be kept within the main village.
