DIRECTOR OF Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, Prof L Fimate, today inaugurated a training programme of the trainers on Paediatrics AIDS counselling, first of its kind in India, in the Jubilee hall of RIMS.
The two day training programme is organised by the Department of Psychiatrics, RIMS and supported by Manipur AIDS Control Society and UNICEF.
There are seven participants from Assam and 15 from Manipur.
Among the participants are some doctors and counsellors.
Besides three doctors�Jagdish, Anju Seth and Manju from Kalawati hospital, Delhi are also participating in the programme.
The programme coodinator is Dr RK Lenin of the Department of Psychiatry, RIMS.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Prof Fimate said that it is a matter of concern among the people that the menace of AIDS had spread among the children.
First it was the drug users and sex workers.
The battle goes on and it cannot be said as yet which side will emerge victorious.
He was happy that RIMS was selected as the training centre for such programmes.
It is one of the four ART centres in the country.
There are seven ART centres and six community centres in Manipur.
Besides 18 NGOs have been working.
Representatives from MACS and the UNICEF were also present at the inaugural function, according to Iboyaima Laithangbam, media adviser to the Director, RIMS.
