Imphal, June 16:
In protest against the monetary demand served by various underground organisations on the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC), employees of the Council today staged a Wakat Meepham in front of the gate of the Council office today.
The protest demonstration was staged following the huge 'unbearable' monetary demands from four-five underground organisations to the Council, according to information received by the press.
During a meeting yesterday, employees of the Council arrived at an decision not to cow down to such unreasonable monetary demands from the underground organisations taking cognisance of the fact that the Council does not have enough income of its own apart from its inability to pay pending salaries to the employees for the last 24 months and pension for the last 130 months, source disclosed.
The source further informed that there is also a conflict going among the contractors after the privatisation of the toll tax and parking fee collection of the Council.
