Imphal, June 16:
In connection with the internal crisis of the Congress Legislature Party, MPCC president Gaikhangam today called on AICC president Sonia Gandhi today.
During the meeting, the AICC chief was apprised of the simmering discontentment of some CLP members against Chief Minister O Ibobi.
The internal stand off in the Congress may be resolved after the Presidential election scheduled for July 19.On the other hand, Chief Minister O Ibobi who flew to Delhi yesterday in a bid to counter the move of Gaikhangam and his supporters is still unable to meet the AICC president.
According to information provided by one CLP member who has been camping at New Delhi for the last many days, Gaikhangam and Sonia Gandhi had an exclusive meeting today at 11 am during which the prevailing crisis was discussed at length.
Following the outbreak of the CLP crisis as a result of the conflict of opinion between CLP leader O Ibobi and MPCC president Gaikhangam, both the leaders have drawn up lists of MLAs supporting them.
On the other hand, the CLP members are caught in a tricky situation because of the tussle between Ibobi and Gaikhangam.
Gaikhangam had already met Oscar Fernandes, Pranab Mukherjee and other central leaders yesterday.
He will be arriving at Imphal tomorrow to attend the June 18 observance the next day.
Gaikhangam resigned from the Council of Ministers in protest against the failure of Chief Minister O Ibobi to expand the SPF Ministry even after three months of swearing in and the alleged inability to maintain any level of transparency.
Ironically, Gaikhangam claimed that his resignation was aimed at strengthening the position of CLP leader O Ibobi and not for want of the post of Deputy Chief Minister.
Yet the crisis in the CLP has been taking a turn for the worse all the while.
The Chief Minister, on his part, has also made all preparations to submit a list of MLAs supporting him to the AICC president besides highlighting in detail the present crisis within the CLP.
