The Consumers' club, Manipur has held Pioneer Trading Co, BT road responsible for causing inconvenience to a mobile phone user and consequently slapped a penalty amount of Rs 200 in addition to asking the business establishment reimburse Rs 300 amount of the recharge coupon.
According to a release of the Club, one Nameirakpam Ratan of Khagempalli Panthak lodged a complaint regarding invalidity of a newly purchased (May 10) recharge coupon from a retail outlet located in the same locality.
When the matter was raised to the shop-owner, Ratan was asked to contact Pioneer Trading Co whose enquiry led to the revelation that the said recharge coupon had been is use since May 2 by another consumer.
The business firm had to be penalised for its questionable service to the consumers and the fact that despite assuring the grieving party (Ratan) for considerate and positive remedial measures the pledge remained unfulfilled.
Contemplating that such erroneous conduct might be rampant in the State taking into account widespread use of mobile phones including by minors and its unpurposeful usage, the consumer's grievances redressal body desired that the State authorities act accordingly to curb misdemeanours of authorised as well as unauthorised retail outlets.
