Imphal, June 16:
On January 31 this year Chalson Tengnoupal village in Chandel district of Manipur bordering Myanmar celebrated its 100 years of existence with great fanfare.
But this isolated village have always remained steep in backwardness with no sign of development on all fronts.
Although, Chalson village is home to around 450 odd people, there is no sign of any essential institutions and infrastructure including medical units, schools, community hall, water supply, electricity, etc.
Two hamlets, T Khonomjang and Chongjang, located near Chalson village also face the same woes of long neglect but T Bongmol village, another village located near Chalson has atleast one LP School and a Public Health Sub-Centre.
Highlighting the woes of the people, S Baite, a Chalson villager said the village folks are compelled to depend on the PHSC at T Bongmol for any emergency cases.
Although one Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) under SSA has come up in Chalson village, 'it needs to be upgraded to primary school, forget about Junior High School and High School', Baite said.
Baite recalled that way back in 1972, one LP School at Chalson had been given the aided status, but it discontinued due to sheer negligence of the Government'.
'What we need now is addressing of all the essential sectors and infrastructures including a community hall', he said, adding that the prolonged negligence of the village has forced its inhabitants to continue lead the lifestyles akin to that of middle age.
Chief of the village Letkhothang Baite urged upon the Government to take immediate action to redress the difficulties being faced by the villagers of Chalson and other neighbouring hamlets along the India-Myanmar border.
