Younger brother, a woman sympathiser arrested, two AK 47 rifles recovered in Manipur

Imphal, March 27 2010:
A combined team of Thoubal District Police Commandos, 16 MLI and Meghalaya Police last night arrested an important leader of KYKL (MDF) from Nongren in Shillong, Meghalaya, and his interrogation has led to the arrest of his younger brotheer and another woman sympathiser and recovery of two AK 47 rifles in Manipur, police said.
Having received a concrete information on the whereabouts of the KYKL (MDF) leader, a team of Thoubal district police commandos went to Shillong and, with the coordination of Meghalaya police and 16 MLI, conducted a hunt for the UG.
The combined team nabbed Maisnam Gopeshwor @ Athouba (40), a self styled captain of KYKL (MDF), from a place at Nongren in Shillong at about 11 pm yesterday.
However, no report of recovery of any weapon on his possession was received.
Gopeshwor @ Athouba is the son of one Maisnam Dhojo, residing at Phubala Makha Leikai in Bishnupur district.
His revelation led the Thoubal district police commandos to his house at Phubala Makha Leikai around 12 O'clock midnight, and arrested his younger brother, M Khagemba (30) .
Two AK 47 rifles along with four magazine and 200 rounds were recovered from the house.
The weapons were neatly kept and oiled, police said.
Following further revelation by Gopeshwor @ Athouba, Thoubal district police commandos have also arrested a woman sympathiser of KYKL (MDF) identified as Mrs Joyrose Machangnao (42), wife of Likeson Machangnao, from her house at Tungkoi village near Happyland under Lamlai Police Station, but in Senapati district.
Police are said to be trying to recover a huge cache of arms and ammunitions belonging to the faction, which has been allegedly hidden by the woman sympathiser.
Her husband, Likeson Machangnao is absconding, police said.
The arrested UG is expected to be brought to Thoubal district police headquarter on Monday.
