Drivers of two Imphal bound rice-laden trucks coming from Dimapur have been reportedly abducted by unidentified armed persons along the National Highway 39 .
According to information received by the press, the incident took place on March 25 at around 7 am.
Two unidentified armed persons who came in a Mariti Zen car stopped the two rice laden trucks at Khongnem under Senapati police station and abducted the drivers identified as Shanta of Wabagai and Laimayum Kullabi Sharma of Maharabi.
registration nos.of the trucks driven by them are respectively MN-04A/4438 and MN-01/7653 .
After abducting the two drivers, their helpers (second drivers) identified as Hemanta of Khangabok Mayai Leikai and Sanjoy of Awang Pashong Khunou were left behind by the armed persons to look after the trucks.
It was only today, that abduction of the drivers was known when an ROP team of 36 Assam Rifles questioned the two helpers why the trucks are stationed there for the last couple of days.
The ROP team immediately reported the matter to Senapati district.
Subsequently, the two rice laden trucks were brought to the campus of Senapati police station.
However, the whereabouts of the abducted drivers is still not known.
