The body of a man in highly decomposed state was found hanging from a tree near Simol village under Senapati district.
Some hunters reportedly came across the body hanging with a plastic rope from a tree grown in the jungle located about 2 kms from the village, one week back.
However, apart from the villagers of Simol and its surrounding area going there to find out whether the body is that of any person known to them, it is yet to be taken down, 30-year old Chongmang, a resident of Simol, who led a team of media-persons to the site informed today.
Whether the man was hung after being murdered first or he hung himself to death has not yet been ascertained.
When the media team reached the spot, the body was hanging in a highly decomposed state with the emanating stench filling the air.
The skins have also started peeling off and the body is bare with the exception of the underwear.
According to the website of the State Police Department, Simol village is located 10 kms to the northeast of Lamlai Police Station of Imphal East but just adjacent to Thamnapokpi village.
Beyond the hill tracts of Simol lies Khamenlok village.
According to another source, though the information of the incident may have reached the police stations of Lamlai and Litan under Ukhrul district, the jurisdiction may be under Saikul police station.
But then, it is Lamlai PS which is nearest to the spot.
Yet the body has not yet been retrieved by any of these police stations.
