While announcing that results of the class 12 and 10 examinations would be declared on May 22 and 25 respectively Education Minister M Okendro has appealed to college students not to boycott the upcoming semester examinations.
speaking as the chief guest at the statue unveiling ceremony of LMS Law College founder Lairenmayum Sheibyasachi at the college campus today, Okendro called upon college students planning to boycott semester examinations to cooperate with the Government in finding a lasting solution to all outstanding issues.
asserting that the Government of Manipur is committed to addressing grievances of the student community, he also confided that a meeting to be held later in the evening will deliberate on issues highlighted by the college students.
Urging all concerned to desist from calling/imposing bandh or strike while pursuing specific demands, the Minister suggested that preference be given to peaceful means of resolving any issue as the Government would accord top priority in finding an amicable settlement.
Stressing on cordial relationships between the teachers and the students to achieve all-round development in the State, he also stated that the inner complex of the college be maintained in a more palatable manner.
Okendro also assured that despite ban on fresh recruitment of teachers, the CM would be consulted and urged to ensure adequate teaching staff strength for LMS College, which at present has five regular teachers and nine part-timers to impart lesson to over 300 students.
He further declared that despite financial constraints besieging the Government of Manipur there would be no compromise in the education and health sectors.
Earlier presenting the key-note address LMS Law College Students' Union president Sh Poireiton Meitei pointed out that both the teaching staff members and students had worked hard to install a statue of the college founder Lairenmayum Sheibyasachi to honour his active role and contribution in setting up the institute in 1958 .
Drawing the Minister's attention to the Union's proposal for introducing a five year LLB integrated course from the current academic session, provide sufficient number of teaching staff members and construct separate toilets for the teachers and the students, he also handed over a memorandum to the Education Minister containing the proposals.
The event was presided by the College principal Md Salatur Rahman.
