A lady climber from the State, Ningthoujam Bidyapati Devi is among the three members of the 1st NE India Mt Everest expedition team to scale the World's highest peak, Mt Everest today thus registering the entry of the region's climbers into the league of World best mountaineers.
Bidyapati, daughter of Kokngang and Bormani from Mongjam Maning Leikai, under Heingang police stations is the first woman mountaineer from Manipur to scale the highest peak in the world, scripting a sort of history, though the honour of the first person to scale Everest from Manipur goes to Nongmaithem Suresh, who achieved the feat in 2010 .
Among the three mountaineers, Anand Gurung of Sikkim first summited the height at 7.35am today followed by Nima Lima of Arunachal Pradesh at 8.30am.Climber from the State, N Bidyapati Devi scaled the 29,029 ft high peak at 9.30am thus becoming the first woman from the State to have scaled the Mt Everest peak.
Other members of the team�Kazi Sherpa of Sikkim, Ansu Jamsenpa of Arunachal Pradesh, Tarun Saikia of Mizoram and Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba of Manipur, are waiting for favourable weather to scale the peak.
Chingkheinganba is the youngest member of the team.

Leader of the expedition team, Dr L Surjit, who is also the president of MMTA advised the other team members who are part of the expedition to make the attempt tomorrow due to unfavourable wind condition, a statement issued by the 1st NEI on top of the World (Mt Everest) Expedition 2013 informed.
The expedition is the first ever of each kind comprising exclusively of mountaineers from six NE States.
It is being funded by the NEC, Shillong with the support of the Planning Dept, Govt of Manipur and being implemented by the MMTA, Manipur.
The expedition team, comprising 16 mountaineers from the NE States including the support team, was flagged off from Kangla by Governor Gurbachan Jagat on Feb 25 this year and subsequently by President Pranab Mukherjee from Rastrapati Bhavan on March 20.The team arrived at the Everest Base Camp (EBC) on April 5.They reached the Camp-III on April 30 .
All Manipur Nupi Marup and the CPI have congratulated the young lady.
Heingang AC MLA N Biren also also congratulated Bidyapati.
