Imphal, October 19:
Responding to the call of Manipur Loumee Lup, a large number of farmers from different parts of the State today staged dharna at the Th Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen at Palace compound to protest alleged deprivation of their rights by the Government.
The protest lasted from 11 am till 4 pm.
The agitating farmers also submitted a memorandum detailing their demands to the Government later in the afternoon.
The demands include conservation of Loktak lake, compensation to farmers whose cultivable land had been submerged due to Loktak Hydro Electric Project, framing of a State policy for farmers in Manipur, implementation of the common minimum programmes of the Government, giving subsidy on fertiliser, pesticide, seeds and agricultural tools and implements and introduction of Kishan Credit Cards without any guarantor.
