A team of the Drug Cell of Imphal East District Police led by its OC SI M Binodkumar seized fake currency notes amounting to Rs 3 lakhs and two hundred from a woman staying in a rented house at Hatta Golapati area around 3.30 pm today.
Informing this to mediapersons, SP of Imphal East District L Kailun said that the fake currency notes were seized during a raid conducted at Hatta Golapati area based on specific information.
The fake currency notes consisting of 252 numbers of Rs 1000 note and 482 numbers of Rs 100 note amounting to Rs 3,00,200 was seized from Ruhida Bibi (32) w/o late Md Shikdar of Lilong Usoipokpi, but presently staying at a rented house in Hatta Golapati area.
Ruhida claimed that the fake currency notes had been given to her by one Kamei from Churachandpur who is a friend of her late husband.
Out of the total amount seized by the police today, she said that fake currency notes worth Rs 1.20 lakhs were handed over to her yesterday at around 11 am and another Rs 1,40,000 this afternoon at around 1.30.Mother of three sons and three daughters, Ruhida said that he met Kamei after a very long time some 20 days back at a hospital where one of her daughters was hospitalized.
On learning the poor financial condition of her family, Kamei promised to provide her with fake currency notes for selling them off and sharing the amount received fifty-fifty.
