Imphal, October 19: 1Assam Rifles located at Chassad, Kamjong subdivision, Ukhrul have reportedly retrieved and handed over the body of the Manipuris (Tangkhul) who was shot dead near the border.

In a statement, Ist AR said that it has been working tirelessly for the security, prosperity and development of the region.

In the recent incident, two Tangkhul persons, who had gone to Molvailup village, Kamjong subdivision for business purposes were abducted by armed cadres and subsequently shot dead.

The incident had taken place near Molnoi village across Border Pillar 113 into Myanmar, and due to the presence of armed cadres, the locals could not retrieve the bodies.

This was leading to unrest in the area.

Col Rajinder Singh, Commandant, 1 AR personally led a column to the village and after taking stock of the situation, launched an operation and oversaw the recovery of the body near BP 113.The body was later handed over to the police.
