Lamka, February 28:
A huge ganja consignment of 2500 kg was seized by personnel of CCpur police and 19 Rajput Rifles during an operation last night at Ponlian and Zongmabok village in Henglep sub-division.
Of the total seizure, 1178 kgs was today deposited to the Churachandpur Police Station at 2.30 pm, while the remaining were said to be burnt last night due to difficulty in arranging transportation.
The ganja, claimed the army, were in the jungle and its owner could not be established.
They were meant for export to Kolkata via Jiribam and Silchar, added the army.
Displaying the seized ganja the army said the catch was just a tip of the ice-berg as such plantation was rampant in the region.
It also displayed pictures, showing the army engaged in uprooting poppy plants, which it also claimed, cover vast acres of land.
Speaking on anonymity, a person engaged in ferrying contraband ganja to Silchar told this correspondent that the ganja cost less than Rs.
