Imphal, February 28:
Categorically stating that there will no let up in the agitation to demand the implementation of Meetei Mayek, MEELAL today said that the State Govt may slap any Act against it detained leaders, but the movement will go on unhindered.
In a statement, MEELAL said that those who are opposing the movement are nothing less than anti-people elements and added that it fully acknowledges the statement of a powerful student organisation which has supported the Meetei Mayek demand.
However to appeal against the burning of Manipuri text books written in Bengali script will not serve any purpose, it observed.
The active role played by the student organisation in getting Manipuri language included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution will not be forgotten by anyone and by the coming generations too, it observed.
Reminding all, the statement said that it was in 1969 that the then president of AMSU, Achou Toijamba organised a 13 day conference to promote the use of Meetei Mayek and added that all the former leaders of the student body are still supporting the implementation of Meetei Mayek.
As such it is important that the present day leaders of AMSU do not veer away from the stand taken by their seniors on the issue of language and Meetei Mayek, or else it will cast them in the wrong light, advised MEELAL.
The statement further said that to give more teeth to the ongoing agitation leaders of MEELAL have adopted certain resolutions.
The resolutions include taking a firm stand against any organisation which try to confuse the people with their self centred statements instead of engaging in a verbal duel through the newspapers and to form a body of MEELAL to face such elements.
Going on the offensive against MAFYF for their statement against the ongoing agitation, MEELAL said that MAFYF is neither a student organisation nor a cultural organisation.
A small organisation like MAFYF has no business to speak out against a body like MEELAL, said the statement and added that MAFYF was formed by two individuals who got frustrated over not getting any contract work.
