Governor Dr SS Sidhu today inaugurated a newly constructed hostel for girl students of Kamjong High School along with a newly constructed playground at Kamjong sub-division of Ukhrul district.
Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing, from whose MP Local Area Development Fund the said hostels and playground have been constructed, graced the function as president.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Sidhu, who visited the sub-division situated at a distance of 125 km from Imphal for the first time, expressed satisfaction over the implementation of the work on the newly constructed hostel and the playground.
However, he was disappointed at the condition of the only existing high school in the sub-divisional headquarters.
Taking serious note of lack of Science and Mathematics teachers in the school, the Governor assured he would see to that the required teachers are appointed and other necessary infrastructures provided after due consultation with the Chief Minister and the Education Minister.
Expressing happiness on seeing the Kukis and the Nagas living in mutual co-existence at Kamjong, Dr Sidhu said it is a unique cultural and traditional legacy of the people of Manipur.
Accepting the memoranda submitted to him by various organisations highlighting the grievances of the people, the Governor assured that necessary measures would be taken up.
The Governor further assured the gathering that works would be taken up to repair the 35 km long road connecting Kamjong with Kangkhuthana.
By way of encouraging the cultural troupes which presented cultural dances and folk songs at the occasion, Dr Sidhu donated a sum of Rs 15,000 to them and another Rs 50,000 toward furnishing the newly inaugurated hostel.
In his presidential address, Rishang Keishing said the visit of the Governor to the sub-division is one of the cherish dreams of the people.
He also expressed optimism that the Governor would henceforth take more interest in development of the sub-division.
