A Division bench of the gauhati High Court today served notices to the state respondents to reply within three weeks pertaining to a case of alleged custodial death.
The case relates to the demise of one Ksh Meghamani Singh of Pallel Mamang leikai while being confined in Sajiwa jail cell on january 17 morning.
The victim's father Ksh Ghane Singh in his petition mentioned of Meghamani being falsely implicated for the death of his wife Surtana Devi and picked up from his residence by Kakching police on January 17.Claiming that no arrest memo was issued to the family, the petitioner recalling Thoubal CJM of remanding his son to police custody till January 23 also alleged police personnel of applying third degree method upon Meghamani.
Meghamani succumbed to police beating at Sajiwa Jail in the early hours of January 21, maintained the father who insisted that the Court direct the respondents to pay adequate compensation to the victim's family and initiate punitive action against guilty police personnel.
