Imphal, March 23:
Decrying continued indifferent attitude of State govt to problems and despair despite various forms of agitation launched to highlight plight teacher community Govt College Teachers' Action Committee (Goctac) alleged gross violation of norms during processes concerning the teachers' appointment, promotion and education schemes.
In a statement issued by convenors of the Committee, Goctac questioned intention of retracting from the earlier notification for appointment of 25 regular principals for various institution through the MPSC inspite of in-depth knowledge that most Govt colleges are facing administrative setback due to absence of regular incumbents in the last 20 years.
While pointing out that placement of 217 colleges teachers were effected in 2004 but till date no outstanding arrears had been released Goctac prevailed upon authorities of State's Education and Finance departments to cease the now familiar blame game and strive to deliver justice to the deserving candidates.
other problems constricting certain opportunities deserved by the teachers pertains to delay for almost six months promotion of some college teachers to the status of Reader even though necessary procedures like interview conducted by the MPSC had been completed, the body highlighted even as it alleged partiality in service linkup of about 350 teachers by approving only 50 of them.
Piling on the accusation, Goctac said UGC regulation for extension of service till a Government employee attains personal age of 62 had not been complied with mainly due to some unscrupulous elements in important departments.
Endorsing service age extension as emphasised by the UGC need not be interpreted as teachers' lust on benefits accompanying Government jobs but due to necessity for strict compliance to any schemes or programmes envisaged by decision makers, said the Committee.
It also took serious note of lack of initiative from the Government side for fresh recruitment of college faculty members as there is no respite of teachers retiring at an alarming rate which consequently means a huge vacuum in the teacher-student ratio.
